Common Space is very pleased to have recently created a
partnership with director Anthony Mathile.
Director Anthony Mathile is distinguished by the acclaim he has
received from both artists and fans for his revelatory work and
honest portrayal of major celebrities and emerging artists. His
approach extends the familiar reality-based narrative into a high
level cinematic realm, combining a masterful sense of
cinematography with performance documentation.
Anthony’s background in music production lead him to Chicago in
1996 where he studied sound art at The Art Institute and audio
production at Columbia College. In 1999 he built The Yacht Club, an
audio based production facility but quickly switched tracks to forge a
creative partnership with RollingStone.com to film over 100
music videos that documented in-studio recording sessions. He
worked closely with bands like Sunny Day Real Estate, Deltron 3030,
Frank Black, The Fog, and Limp Bizkit.
In 2001 Anthony produced and directed live videos for David
Bowie’s Hours album. Soon after, he toured with The Rolling
Stones for 13 months to document the band backstage, editing short
clips from the road and posted them live to the internet. The end
product was a 4 disc DVD box set entitled Four Flicks which won
numerous awards for best special feature content.
in 2003-2004 Anthony toured with David Bowie’s Reality Tour which
culminated in the feature documentary Jeans and a T-Shirt.
Anthony quickly established a reputation as a seasoned tour film
documentarian and soon after Bowie, he toured with Sting, Avril
Lavigne, and Destiny’s Child. More recently, Anthony has toured
with Phil Collins as he travelled through Eastern Europe and The
Middle East to create The Long Goodnight, a chronicle of the days
leading up to the musician’s farewell show as well as the breakup of
his marriage.
In 2007 the band Genesis hired anthony to produce and direct a
film chronicling their reunion Turn It On Again tour. The film
entitled Come Rain Or Shine is scheduled to be released by EMI in
May 2008.
